Kimono Kult to release Hiding In The Light EP on March 04th

There's a new monstrous musical collab set to release their first EP. Their name is Kimono Kult and they're Omar Rodriguez Lopez, Teri Gender Bender, John, Nicole Turley, Dante White and Laena Geronimo - some sort of an underground supergroup, one could say.

You know we have to lose We break our minds to choose Between when, what and where The carriers of pain do not discriminate Distinction’s in the stars Aw sides Bringing me a vision in my mind’s eye Etiquette as a stroke You don’t know what I mean and yet you go to it Rain from yourself to the cloudy sky till you are dry Lightning strikes the sun Won’t you come on

More new Swahili Blonde songs featuring John on guitar

While the release of the project’s second full-length has been pushed for 02nd October 2011 (which is…a Sunday?), Nicole Turley’s Swahili Blonde continues rolling out tracks on the Internet, more precisely on the Band Camp profile. They’re fresh, summery, yet spiced with a rather high dose of psychedelia and jungle. Next to John on guitar and Nicole on most of the instruments as well as the regular collaborator Laena on violin, there’s saxophone on all tracks, played by Brad Caulkins. Psycho Tropical Ballet Pink by Swahili Blonde *Thank you, Some Kind of Awesome, for the news.

Mentions of John in a Swahili Blonde interview

In an interview for Japanese magazine Loud, Nicole Turley talked a lot about her project Swahili Blonde and the creation process behind songs, which is certainly interesting, as it was only Omar Rodriguez Lopez who previously shared what his creative process of working with John looked like. Were most of the songs written and recorded by yourself, and then you had the guest musicians come in and play? How did each guest musicians come about contributing to this project? (ie, John Taylor (Duran Duran),John Frusciante,Laena Myers-Ionita (The Like), Stella Mozgawa (WarPaint),Michael Quinn (Corridor) (Part omitted) I would record all my instrumentation for the song first, do a rough mix, and…

  • New Swahili Blonde song on Myspace, “LeMampatee”

For everyone who’s interested, there’s a new Swahili Blonde song posted on Myspace and it is called LeMampatee (whatever that may mean). It appears to be mostly sung in an imaginary language similar to French and it’s quite catchy. Enjoy! Until that stuff is available to obtain legally, there’s always Elixor Fixor, which is on iTunes and features some mighty JF guitar awesomeness. Swahili Blonde’s “Elixor Fixor” is out on iTunes

Swahili Blonde’s first single, Elixor Fixor is out on iTunes as of yesterday – it was released a day earlier. You can click here to acquire it if there’s an iTunes store available for your country. Otherwise, give it a spin on the Myspace page. John’s guitar sounds mighty on this, so if you’re down due to all this craze, maybe that will cheer you up. The “newer” artwork was not used here, so it would be logical to assume it was intended for the 7″. Remember to be polite and not bother them if you don’t really have to. Give kudos instead. ^_^ For older news items on this collaboration, click here and here.

  • Swahili Blonde’s single to be digitally released on 14th December

Here’s something to spice up the boring week, for everyone who’s interested in experimental music, afro-beats and, of course, everything John Frusciante is taking a part in. Swahili Blonde‘s first single, Elixor Fixor, will be released digitally on iTunes on 14th December 2009. A physical 7″ single will be out in very limited format (600 copies) in late January. As you all known, next to the multi-instrumentalist Nicole Turley, the leading persona of the project, there’s Laena Myers-Ionita on violin and John on guitar (the production sounds really familiar, too…). As far as the “Man Meat” CD and 12″ go, they will be out in April 2010. Members of the…
