• Swahili Blonde - Psycho Tropical Ballet Pink

John on new Swahili Blonde song, Etoile De Mer

Swahili Blonde camp is apparently working on a new album titled Psycho Tropical Ballet Pink, which is set for release sometime in August this year. The first track, Etoile De Mer (that’s starfish in French) has just been posted onto their Bandcamp page and it has a very, very summer cocktail tropical beach vibe to it. John’s contributed a guitar to it, to our great pleasure, despite not being a band member anymore. Have a listen and enjoy it, by all means. Etoile De Mer by Swahili Blonde *Many thanks to Travis for news – that’s why Invisible Movement had it first.

Mentions of John in a Swahili Blonde interview

In an interview for Japanese magazine Loud, Nicole Turley talked a lot about her project Swahili Blonde and the creation process behind songs, which is certainly interesting, as it was only Omar Rodriguez Lopez who previously shared what his creative process of working with John looked like. Were most of the songs written and recorded by yourself, and then you had the guest musicians come in and play? How did each guest musicians come about contributing to this project? (ie, John Taylor (Duran Duran),John Frusciante,Laena Myers-Ionita (The Like), Stella Mozgawa (WarPaint),Michael Quinn (Corridor) (Part omitted) I would record all my instrumentation for the song first, do a rough mix, and…

  • Japanese edition of Swahili Blonde’s Man Meat to include remixes

For all of you who have enjoyed videos from Swahili Blonde’s debut show featuring John on guitar during one song, especially those who are wondering when the heck will the team behind the DVD work on the god damned thing; here’s some nice news. I think that people who are imagining Speed Dealer Moms’ music will like the news as well. This has been posted by Nicole Turley on Swahili Blonde’s Facebook page: FYI… Man Meat has been picked up for a Japanese release by P-Vine Records. The Japanese release will include a bonus track and 2 remixes. Bonus track: Watch That Grandad Go (a Bauhaus cover). Remixes: LeMampatee by…

  • Swahili Blonde – new artwork, musician, song versions and single re-release

For everyone who’s been following one of a couple of known projects John’s been taking part in since his departure from the Red Hot Chili Peppers; here’s some news on Swahili Blonde. While the release date for the physical version of the Elixor Fixor single, which will contain a remix, is not yet known, there’s (yet again) new artwork for it, featuring a cute animal from the cat family. Even though the project was labeled an one-person-show or DIY come six months ago, at this point, there are five people participating. After John, violinist Laena Myers-Ionnita and drummer Stella Mogzawa, the fifth person to join Nicole Turley’s afro-beat/tango effort is…

  • New Swahili Blonde song on Myspace, “LeMampatee”

For everyone who’s interested, there’s a new Swahili Blonde song posted on Myspace and it is called LeMampatee (whatever that may mean). It appears to be mostly sung in an imaginary language similar to French and it’s quite catchy. Enjoy! Until that stuff is available to obtain legally, there’s always Elixor Fixor, which is on iTunes and features some mighty JF guitar awesomeness. • Elixor Fixor by Swahili Blonde on iTunes

Swahili Blonde’s “Elixor Fixor” is out on iTunes

Swahili Blonde’s first single, Elixor Fixor is out on iTunes as of yesterday – it was released a day earlier. You can click here to acquire it if there’s an iTunes store available for your country. Otherwise, give it a spin on the Myspace page. John’s guitar sounds mighty on this, so if you’re down due to all this craze, maybe that will cheer you up. The “newer” artwork was not used here, so it would be logical to assume it was intended for the 7″. • New artwork for Swahili Blonde’s “Elixor Fixor”

Swahili Blonde have changed their artwork for Elixor Fixor to an illustration featuring giraffes. If your favourite wild animal is giraffe, you’re either me, my mom or someone else who just might go “awww” at this. Click here for the blog entry on their Myspace and the images in their full size. Remember to be polite and not bother them if you don’t really have to. Give kudos instead. ^_^ For older news items on this collaboration, click here and here.

  • Swahili Blonde’s single to be digitally released on 14th December

Here’s something to spice up the boring week, for everyone who’s interested in experimental music, afro-beats and, of course, everything John Frusciante is taking a part in. Swahili Blonde‘s first single, Elixor Fixor, will be released digitally on iTunes on 14th December 2009. A physical 7″ single will be out in very limited format (600 copies) in late January. As far as the “Man Meat” CD and 12″ go, they will be out in April 2010. Members of the…

Sick of Saturday questions? Not into Chad Smith’s quotes on RHCP? Seen all the media that’s posted every now and then? Today’s your lucky day, I guess, as there’s some REAL news and some MUSIC! ^_^ I’ve been nudged to post some more news on this ever since some people first spotted it; but – just as it was the case with Speed Dealer Moms – I thought it would not be all right to disturb the musicians at work until they’re ready to present something to us. Swahili Blonde is a new project of the percussionist/vocalist Nicole Turley who formerly played with Los Angeles-based new age band Weave! (you…
