Die Shellsuit, Die! review The Empyrean and give it 10 out of 10
James Davidson of the UK-based e-zine Die, Shellsuit, Die! has reviewed The Empyrean and he gave it 10 out of 10. He passed the review to Record Collection Music who have then passed it to Invisible Movement; so here’s an excerpt. “God†starts as dream pop along the lines of French Electro Pop duo Air or ex-Sneaker Pimp Kelli Ali, but the track soon kicks into a brooding rhythm of kick drum and electric piano leading into a maelstrom of synth and digital processors, the star ship sail boat going into hyperspace, edging out on gentle violin. “Dark/Light†carries on where the previous track left off with Frusciante’s voice searing…

Snow ((Hey Oh)) > Halo ((All I Play Oh))
Fans of the computer game Halo have spoofed Snow ((Hey Oh)) in a way that probably makes more sense to someone who’s played the game; but it still is an amusing thing to start the week with. [flash http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pFmtr5SnsWE] If you’re interested, you can read an article about this.

The Mars Volta’s Octahedron out on 19th June?!
As reported on The Comatorium blog as well as Berlinista.com; an official announcement is expected in near future regarding The Mars Volta’s new album, Octahedron. Once again, the album will be produced by Omar Rodriguez-Lopez. The provisoral release date would be 19th June. And, from this segment taken out of the Mike Watt’s The Watt From Pedro podcast, John’s very likely involved in this: Mike Watt: Like, uh, Omar… John Frusciante: Mmhmm. Mike Watt:..had you be a guitar player for him. John Frusciante: Yeah, I’ve played on all their albums, except their first EP. I just did another one in August. Mike Watt: Does he play on it? I mean,…

Woodstock co-founder Michael Lang is seeking sponsors for 40th anniversary concert
According to numerous media who have reported this during the last couple of days, Michael Lang, the co-founder of the legendary plans for a 40th anniversary Woodstock concert are “all speculative ideas” for now, but he hopes to bring them to reality this summer. He’s very ambitious, as he wants an environment-friendly festival, with as little carbon emission as possible. At the same time, he would not charge admission to the event and therefore he’s seeking sponsors. Here’s what else he told Billboard and how they commented on his idea – without stating any of the recent rumours, only reflecting on 1999. Lang said that musically a 2009 Woodstock would…

Manic Street Preachers are recommending The Empyrean!
On the front page of their website, British rockers Manic Street Preachers are listing the things they’ve been into these days, with the heading Manic Street Preachers have been loving. One of the things they’ve been loving is The Empyrean. Not so surprising, given that James Dean Bradfield’s answer to NME’s question on what were the best things to have happened in 1998 was simply: “John Frusciante rejoining the Chili Peppers”. Many thanks to Tom and Mark for the heads-up and the reminder. ^_^ And don’t forget to check the Manics’ blog, they seem to be really nice people; plus their music is great.

Kicking off the week with a special: new and improved Green Fest audio download – mp3 and FLAC
You all remember 2007, you all remember Green Fest and all 100 000 people who were there – unless someone had amnesia – want to remember it for good reasons: such a large amount of people jumping to Higher Ground, John’s unforgettable rendention of ABBA’s classic SOS; Flea’s impromptu song and much much more. My good friend Robert/hcrockso, who provides this website with enormous moral support, occasional Hungarian translations and media-related help has managed to improve the recording and now all the songs apart from those three omitted from the TV broadcast for band and band management’s undisclosed reasons, are available as a high-quality 192 Kbps mp3s for your iPod…

Saturday question #7: Put a name on ’em!
Welcome to the seventh edition of Saturday questions. This week, I’m asking a question originally asked on the board, by a member who goes by KGS. Short and sweet; but requiring a longer answer, I can imagine. If you were to name untitled 1-13 songs on Usually Just A T-Shirt, what would you name them? For previous Saturday questions, click here

Warpaint’s “Exquisite Corpse” + John’s involvement in recording process
This is a guest-article written by Carole la_kagol; with the goal to present the work of the band whose album John mixed to everyone who’s interested. The article is abridged and you can download the original version as a PDF file I have made by clicking here (size: 24.05 Mb, downloads so far) – on this page there’s only basic information and the excerpts of the whole piece that concern John’s involvement in the mixing process and support he gave to the band. Please, note that the PDF document contains web links that are clickable. Warpaint is a psychedelic jazzy underground band, founded somewhere between 2003 and 2006 in the…
