Flea’s multi-coloured bodysuit and the fact he resembles a convulsingly radical dinosaur when he plucks away on his bass only drew more attention to the fact that musically, he’s likely one of most accomplished players on his instrument in all of modern rock. The same can be said for guitarist John Frusciante, whose swells of orgasmic guitar solos along with his euphoric and delirious stage movements made more than a few faces scrunch up in total riff-driven ecstasy.

On Charlie — from the new Stadium Arcadium album, the source of the bulk of last night’s set list — Flea’s hyperactive bottom end sparred with Frusciante’s fiery fretwork, but on Fortune Faded, Frusciante’s blistering riffs emerged the clear winner (or maybe it was that wall of lights, this time blanketing the performers in rays of cool blue and red).

Sound: The sound of the Chili Peppers has always been amazing. Their first visit to Winnipeg in their 23 years, there was 13,000 screaming fans singing along to old favorites. Guitarist (and my hero) John Frusciante rocked out to at least one hardcore solo for every song, and they were amazing. The only one that matched up to the recorded version was the solo for Dani California, and it only matched the first half. In one of the songs, Frusciante took off his guitar and played a bongo solo, while Kieidis kept up the guitar parts. Frusciante played a couple different guitars during the show.
