Reactions to RHCP in Hall of Fame

After the Red Hot Chili Peppers were induced to the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame last Saturday, there have been numerous reactions to the event, both on the social web and in mass media. A lot of repetition and spam as well. So, here’s what was most interesting.

As reported by Rolling Stone, the Red Hots are preparing a cover EP, for a release on the 01st of May, as a response to their new honour. The EP will contain out of six recordings, all cover songs originally performed by artists already in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. One of these songs was recorded with the current line-up of the band, one during the One Hot Minute era and the rest with the classic line-up featuring John on guitar, backing vocals and co-production.

The songs on the EP will be:
Havana Affair (Ramones)
Search & Destroy (Iggy & the Stooges)
I Get Around (The Beach Boys)
Teenager In Love (Dion and the Belmonts)
Suffragette City (David Bowie)
Everybody Knows This Is Nowhere (Neil Young)

In other news, Sun Sentinel, a Fort Lauderdale newspaper, caught up with John’s father and asked him what he thinks about his son being induced to the hall of fame. He revealed to them that he called John to congratulate him and said that he’s very proud of him.

Absolutely a proud father. I’m very happy for all the band members to be recognized. He grew up in an environment of music. Of course, it was different as far as genres were concerned.

He also explained that he never pressured his son to go beyond a general education diploma:

His music was what he wanted to do and that’s what he did. I’m not somebody who’s going to tell my kids they should do this, they should do that.
