Top 250 albums of Q’s Lifetime – RHCP’s “Californication” listed

In the upcoming, February 2011 issue of British Q Magazine, which is at the moment available solely to its subscribers and set to hit the news stands on 31st December, there’s a list of 250 best albums published in Q’s lifetime, as voted by its readers. The magazine was first published late in 1986, therefore having witnessed roughly 24 years of great music, good music, bad music and, well, awful music. Their list appears to be more realistic than XFM’s Top 1000 Songs Of All Time, so picking this up would be a logical recommendation. Red Hot Chili Peppers’ 1999 comeback album, Californication is on the list and there’s a…

  • The XFM Top 1000 Songs Of All Time

19 RHCP songs, 17 with John, on a top-1000 list by XFM

Eminent British radio XFM, with help of its readers, has compiled a list of the Top 1000 Songs Of All The Time and it’s most entirely made out of rock and alternative music; which isn’t a big surprise given who their listeners are. 19 songs by the Red Hot Chili Peppers, 17 of which are from both John eras, have been selected for this list. They’re all the same page, and the list begins here. Here are all the songs that made the list, listed by albums, as it is more convinient that way. Sadly, only one of them was not released as a single, the rest are all overplayed…

Reactions to the new Red Hot Chili Peppers book and photos

Since The Red Hot Chili Peppers: An Oral/Visual History saw the light of the day a couple of weeks ago; there have been many reactions to it. (Un)surprisingly enough, many of them were out-of-the-box and picked from Reuters, so if you want a true opinion on the book, you’re better off getting yourself a copy. The Reuters story sums up what the book is about and calls it a nostalgic window into the future, rather than a resume of what has happened before. Nearing the end of their summary, they quote Flea’s feelings about the book. “A picture book by its nature is a nostalgic thing,” Flea said. “Going back…

  • Carlos Santana - Guitar Heaven: The Greatest Guitar Classics of All Time

Carlos Santana covers “Under The Bridge”

The guitar legend Carlos Santana just released his new album, Carlos Santana – Guitar Heaven: The Greatest Guitar Classics of All Time. The title pretty much speaks for itself – mr. Santana is covering a lot of songs famous for their melodies and riffs. Guest singers, ranging from Chris Cornell to India Arie are also present. Now, why does this matter? Because the last track on the CD/DVD deluxe version of the album is a cover of Red Hot Chili Peppers’ Under The Bridge, with Andy Vargas on vocals and Carlos Santana doing John. You can buy this pretty much flattering tribute from an older legend to a younger legend…

  • An Oral/Visual History - The Red Hot Chili Peppers

Red Hot Chili Peppers – An Oral/Visual History reviewed + competition results

Just like it was the case with The Empyrean in January last year, Invisible Movement is reviewing the cool new thing so you can make up your mind whether you want it or not and so you know what to expect. At the same time, this review does not contain major spoilers, to make it more fun for you. Red Hot Chili Peppers – An Oral/Visual History is, at its worst, yet another lavish high-quality print coffee table book that you can knock out a burglar with and it will stay in one piece. At its best, it’s a nice work of design, combining some quotes we have seen in…

  • Diana Vickers in "My Wicked Heart" music video

Talent show alumni getting sued for ripping off Under The Bridge?

It is not peculiar to see parts of songs or even entire songs sounding like something else. For example, Can’t Stop somehow shares the riff with Shania Twain’s Honey I’m Home and we’ve had quite a lot of discussion here regarding the similarities between Dani California and Tom Petty’s Mary Jane’s Last Dance. On the other side, for example, Franz Ferdinand’s Walking Away is using the exact same chord progression as John’s Invisible Movement, the song this website was named after. How can musicians find their way in this mess, anyway? What is whose? Perhaps that is what the producer team behind English reality show contestant Diana Vickers had on…

  • Praises of How Deep Is Your Love? cover and By The Way

Here’s a pair of recent clippings, as John’s vocal, guitar and production skills are often talked about in the online media, whether he would like it it or not… How Deep Is Your Love? makes it to a list of (in)famous covers In the 18th issue of Altsounds.com magazine-like feature The Vault, the subject are famous and infamous classic live performances. One of the three they’re talking about is John’s take on The Bee Gees’ How Deep Is Your Love? This last video is one of the most surprisingly genius covers I’ve ever heard. You won’t agree until after watching this video but the Beegee’s “How Deep is your Love”…

  • John’s featured in an episode of The Guitar Show (tonight, tomorrow, Saturday)

Some excerpts of Barry Cleveland’s interview with John for the Guitar Player magazine, November 2006 issue, will be a part of this week’s episode of The Guitar Show. After positive feedback they have received when they aired a segment of it in February, the author and producers of The Guitar Show have decided to air another segment of Barry Cleveland’s 2006 interview with John in their program; and they’ll be doing so this week – tonight, tomorrow and on Saturday! Once again, it’s the real deal, not super-polished stuff you find in magazines. It’s how it really was. This is how the staff of The Guitar Show presented it: In…
