Swahili Blonde press reactions & an alternative order link
Here’s a little digest on Swahili Blonde-related stuff, for everyone who’s interested. I thought this would be more practical than posting these news items each time they appear, especially given how many of you are subscribed to updates (that’s a whole small town out there, ouch!).
To all of you who have noticed that Saki.com is delivering the Elixor Fixor 7″ only to USA residents and that their website’s ordering system probably hasn’t been updated in eight or more years as some country names are returned as invalid, check out the listing on Boomkat.com. You cannot obtain the physical vinyl single there, but you can get both tracks in .flac format. If you still don’t know what FLAC is, check its sourceforget page – it is a Free Lossless Audio Codec.
The rest of the news would be a bunch of reactions from the press. Most of them are getting a couple of things wrong…in short, they apparently think that John is calling himself Swahili Blonde, which would be a bit…odd. I guess everyone hears what they want to hear. In addition to this, almost everyone gets Alan Myers and Laena Myers’ names wrong, so they’re now “Alan and Alina Meyer”.
ChartAttack are pretty optimistic about the whole thing, though they’re labelling the band exclusively as John’s project:
Former Red Hot Chili Peppers’ guitarist John Frusciante has created a new band dubbed Swahili Blonde, who will release their Man Meat debut album this summer.

Exclaim.ca are getting the band’s evolution right, but they’re being a bit mean about it:
Given this apparent distaste for stadium rock, it makes sense that Frusciante would hitch his star to a bizarre band like Swahili Blonde. A DIY project led by former WEAVE! drummer Nicole Turley, the group’s music is a bizarre world fusion, combining tribal percussion with avant-garde synths, disorienting tempo changes and choppy funk guitar.

Consequences Of Sound are doing everything to get as much attention as possible (with 20 000 visitors per day, who would actually need to be clownish?):
It’s called, and you’ll probably laugh, Man Meat, and while there’s no set release date, you can hear a few tracks on the group’s MySpace page. We’re not going to lie, this stuff is a little obscure. The site labels them as “Afro-beat/Tropical/Tango†and that couldn’t be closer to the truth, only they forgot psychedelic, too. Let’s just say Frusciante wasn’t lying when he wanted to go a different direction.

Music For Perfect People gets most of their information from Chart Attack, but the article seems positive:
Many folks have been wondering what the hell John Frusciante was planning on next when he decided to leave Red Hot Chili Peppers a few months ago. After a short time of silence, the guitar god has reemerged in a new project called Swahili Blonde. Head over to the band’s myspace page for a taste of their unique style of “Afro-beat/Tropical/Tango.†If you dig it, look for the group’s debut LP Man Meat sometime this summer on Manimal Vinyl.

192.cl got it pretty right. Their article is in Spanish and you can read it here: ¿Dónde está John Frusciante? En Swahili Blonde
Special shout-out to the last website mentioned in this article, hoping that its staff is OK, given that they live in Chile where a catastrophic earthquake occurred on Saturday morning.
