John’s letter to Total Guitar, September 2006 issue
Unlike many other musicians and unlike many other people in general, our John always admits when he’s wrong. So therefore, for some of you it might not be a surprise that he wrote a letter to Total Guitar magazine, explaining what was wrong about the things he said regarding learning guitar playing theory in the first part of his XXL interview from the July issue (text-only and scans available on this site). Thanks to rayzer from OHG for typing this out. And, a lesson to all of us: when you think you were wrong, say it out loud, don’t be afraid to do so. I am sitting here listening to…

A mention of John in an article
The Sunday Times published an article about members of famous bands going solo. Of course, there’s a mention of John. A more recent example of solo albums keeping a big band on an even keel has been the career of John Frusciante, guitarist with the Red Hot Chili Peppers. Frusciante’s ability to conjure melodic riffs is a vital element of the Chili Peppers’ stadium-conquering sound, but only a tiny part of what Frusciante wants to do. Fortunately, the man’s obsessive need to make music can be catered for through the simple act of releasing solo albums (astonishingly, he once released five in one year). Of course, not five…seven.

Yumi Yoshimura is a fan of John…
Yumi Yoshimura, a member of the Japanese band Puffy AmiYumi said this in an interview with Metromix. What do you like about American culture? Yumi: In Japan, a lot of the movies are American, and [they’re] very popular. Also [Red Hot Chili Peppers’ guitarist] John Frusciante. Ami: I really love American music. Besides that, I also really love how the snack packaging is so ‘pop.’ I really like the design. The cereal boxes, the packaging of them.

You are all wonderful,” lead singer Anthony Kiedis said. In their first major UK show since the release of double album Stadium Arcadium, the Chilis played songs from the album, including singles Dani California and Tell Me…

LA times article on RHCP and Stadium Arcadium
There’s a pretty good article on John and RHCP right here. There are a couple of tiny mistakes in it, regarding how long John’s absense from the band lasted, what he bought this year etc, but it’s still a good read.

On John’s newest collaboration with Mikah Sykes
Article taken from registerguard.com, written by Serena Markstrom. This is not a story about a Eugene kid moving to a major city and making it big. But now that Mikah Sykes is working with a famous guitar player down in Los Angeles, people pay more attention to his mu- sic. Sykes lived in Eugene and Springfield up until about a year and a half ago. He moved to Portland first, then to Southern California, where he decided the only way to afford to pursue music was to be homeless. For the past six months, he’s been staying with friends and sleeping in his tent. During that time he has worked…
