  • Two more reviews, credits and minor updates

As the updates are mostly focused on The Empyrean at the moment, that’s how it is today as well. The album page has been updated and now it’s more neatly organised. A review is coming soon, so don’t be confused by Lorem Ipsum. The rumour mill was moved to a history page and thanks to awesome treznor from the board, there is now a page from album credits. If you’re interested in helping the musicians on the board tab the album, click here. And remember, the list of all the places where you can get the album has been compiled, too. Speaking of the board, its migration has been completed.…

  • Lyrics, first magazine feature and Uncut review

This is an improvised update, what’s most important at the moment, as other things can wait, given the server load and the site owner’s work commitments. More to come, as soon as possible. First of all, a reader who’d like to remain anonymous has submitted scans of the whole February 2009 Guitar Magazine Japan feature. Please, once again, if you happen to live in Japan or have a way of getting this magazine, buy it. Support the people who are working hard on creating magazines. And, needless to say, help with translation would be great, so if any of the Japanese or Japanese-speaking Invisible Movement readers would like to give…

  • Preview of the session photos

    More photographs on Blur Photo

Nabil of Blur Photo has uploaded a whole photo session he did with John in November (or at least the EXIF data on one of the photos says it was November) and it can be viewed here. Photos are both black and white and colour; and the scenery is quite interesting and moving. The photographer also states that John Frusciante is his favourite musician, so that probably makes the whole experience even more personal. Thanks to Lara, for the heads-up. Tip: if the above link doesn’t work for you, go to Blur Photo and select “01”.

  • Reactions from all around the WWW

The web is pretty much buzzing with the news on the The Empyrean’s release, knowing that Red Hots are on a hiatus and that, suddenly, every single thing band members do are therefore somewhat sensational to the general public. So, here’s what the others are saying….often featuring a cynical approach to that *other* sensational news on the band for the week. What overshadowed what? You decide. Red Hot Chili Peppers guitarist John Frusciante has recruited his bandmate Flea and former Smiths’ guitarist Johnny Marr for his latest solo album, “The Empyrean.” The disc is due January 20 via Record Collection. The Sonus Quartet and the New Dimension Singers also appear…

  • Chad Smith denies all the rumours about RHCP splitting

(thanks to Eleni for the heads-up!) In an interview to an issue of Rhythm, where he’ll also be the guest editor, Chad Smith denied all the rumours of RHCP breaking up and he added that they’ll gather in September and decide on future plans. “We’d been on tour for a year-and-a-half and we said; Let’s take a year off,” he told Rhythm magazine. “We hadn’t taken a year off since John Frusciante rejoined our group almost 10 years ago. We write songs, then we record, then we tour for a year-and-a-half, then we write songs, so we did that three times. Time for a little break. Anthony (Kiedis) was having…

  • John is thought of as an inspiration for a solo career.

John is thought of as an inspiration for a solo career. At least that would be opinion of Andrew Densby of Houston Cronicle. The article is on Jakob Dylan of The Wallflowers putting out a solo album, and ten different solo projects are listed as a proof that musicians can have solo albums and still be in bands. One of them is rather known to the auditorium of this corner of the worldwide web… 9. Shadows Collide With People, John Frusciante (2004): A lot of big, beautiful arrangements that have become standard on Red Hot Chili Peppers albums are here, and Frusciante’s an expressive singer. If you’re interested, you can…

  • Under The Bridge makes it onto the list of the greatest guitar songs…

Under The Bridge has made it into the top 100 of Rolling Stone’s Top 100 Guitar songs; as 98th. Guitarist John Frusciante’s tone is as naked as singer Anthony Kiedis’ addiction memoir. But the moving parts in his chord patterns and the hurt in his flourishes are symphonic. He modeled the chorus on Joe Jackson’s “In Every Dream Home (A Nightmare),” but when he locks in with the drums and bass, you can hear funk — the kind you always get in true blues. The magazine has also encouraged readers for their own input on the greatest guitar songs, the topic is here *thanks to Hrvoje for the heads-up

He’s fucking wicked.” RHCP weekend on Vh1 Europe Next weekend on Vh1 Europe will be dedicated to RHCP, as said here; a schedule is to follow. I will sent…

  • A bar in Baltimore, USA was named after one of John’s songs

(from Baltimore Sun) For years, Russell deOcampo wanted a way to combine his passions for art, live music, bartending and film. With his new club, the Windup Space, he thinks he’s finally found it. … THE NAME’S ORIGIN // It’s a song by John Frusciante. The song is about something a little deeper than selling booze and art to people. It’s just a name, really. But I think it’s catchy, and you can have all the cliches you want. ‘Oooh, I’m going to get wound up at the Windup,’ or, ‘I’m going to wind up at the Windup.’ There’s so much cheesiness. I can talk at length about it. If…
