Marsh, who has appeared on Hughes’ last several solo releases.

  • Steeplechaser listens to John when training…

(as posted by debsy on the Ramparts forum, taken from Runners’ World ) Olympians With Earbuds 5 elite athletes on the tunes that start them up by: Peter Gambaccini … ANTHONY FAMIGLIETTI (steeplechase) “John Frusciante, the guitarist for the Red Hot Chili Peppers, has a song called “Second Walk”. My favorite lines are ‘There’s no time at all, except how you move. Be who you are, do what you do, not win or lose.’ Basically, what we do as runners is race the clock every day. I listened to his CD every day at the Olympics. I’d listen to it a half hour to an hour before a race.”

  • Problem fixed & an article recommendation

The non-working links to the Hyde Park ’04 video clips have been fixed (thanks to David for telling me about this mistake), I apologise for the problem. They work now. And this is a very interesting read. It’s about Ryan Hewitt, but it’s pretty much related to John: http://mixonline.com/mag/audio_la_grapevine_84/

  • Anthony is praising John’s guitar skills again

This is an excerpt from an article published on Billboard.com…Anthony had some really nice words to say regarding John’s playing on Stadium Arcadium: Kiedis cites “Snow” as one of his favorite tunes from the new album, due to its “really crazy sounding guitar part. It’s very busy but rhythmically desirable at the same time. That has grown into one of the epic, kind of great-feeling jams on this record.” Another tune, “Wet Sand,” goes in a new structural direction. “It isn’t so much verse/chorus/verse/chorus with a bridge,” Kiedis says. “It has a beginning, a middle and an end, which I like as a change of pace.” Fans are sure to…

  • Curtains the second album of 2005, a critic says

According to the Buffalo News’ critic, Stephen Wilger, John’s final album in the series of six albums in six months is the second best album of the year 2006. 2. John Frusciante, “Curtains”: Red Hot Chili Peppers’ guitarist/solo musician John Frusciante announced to fans that six solo albums would be released over six months. His last (and arguably best) of the series, “Curtains,” was recorded on an analog eight-track recorder in his living room. He uses beautiful arrangements for the acoustic guitar with an occasional electric guitar for his subtle lead lines. link to the article

  • Babyshambles compared to John?!

A writer of The South End Newspaper is comparing the music of Pete Doherty’s new band, Babyshambles, to John’s music… Tuesday marked the release of the new album by Babyshambles, which is Britain’s answer to John Frusciante. Why John Frusciante you ask? Well at one time, lead Shamble Pete Doherty was a member of British punks the Libertines. However, drug abuse forced him out of the band and into a mess of tabloid fodder. In the midst of this, he just so happened to record an album that so defines drug abuse and addiction, much like Frusciante post-Chili Peppers offerings.

  • John talks about the gig of his lifetime

(from Telegraph, thanks to Adam) Going to a Butthole Surfers show in the late 1980s was like going to a doctor from the year 3000 – they helped people with the sounds they made. At this show, they had two drummers, and the craziest films going on behind them. The whole thing was like a big acid trip. You could almost see the music in the air. Paul Leary took guitar-playing to another place. He could pick his notes from the air, and turn them into something beautiful. Singer Gibby Haynes put all these effects on his voice – slowing it down, speeding it up. It was like hearing time…

  • John on Johnny Ramone in the November issue of MOJO

Yet again, John has a tiny mention in a magazine feature about the Ramones. This is from the November 2005 issue of Mojo, page 80. Many thanks to catwoman from the Ramparts forum for this bit… Being friends with Johnny [Ramone] for 7 years is a privilage that’ll never be topped. What he did for music will ring forever. His guitar playing was the same as Erik Satie’s early piano works, in that he broke everything down to it’s simplist form, to true shapes of chords and constant down strokes. With that formular he was albe to express colours, shapes and sounds meaningfully as any of the great guitar players.…

  • Tiny bits of magazine articles related to John

Yes, yes, I know, it’s been unusually long since the last update. Life suddenly became interesting with one of my best friends and BBS moderator getting married, me having way too many exams and getting closer to actually be employed for the first time in my life. So, yes, thanks for your understanding and please, accept my apology. I am going to make some nice updates ASAP. For the start, here are some related bits from magazines: Here is a very interesting article about Musicians Insitute in Los Angeles and qualities of that insitution. John is mentioned as one of the famous, respected musicians who graduated from that school. It’s…

  • A rumour and a recommendation

A rumour Here’s a question Dave Navarro responded to on his blog: Q: Do you think there’s ever a chance John Frusciante will join Camp Freddy onstage sometime? A: I literally spoke to him last week and asked if he would do one. He said he’d for sure do it. My hopes are for the October Vanity Fair show. [permalink] So, there goes the story that them two don’t like each other, it seems. This promises an interesting and probably unexpected collaboration. John’s name is still not on the list of people who have joined/will join Camp Freddy onstage, but having seen this, it will probably be there soon. Many…
