• Chad Smith on RHCP regrouping, demos up to 10 years old and John

In a recent lengthy interview with MusicRadar; Chad Smith spoke about his Meatbeats, Chickenfoot and, of course, the future of the Red Hot Chili Peppers. Joe Bosso, who interviewed both him and John during 2008; asked a question about all *four* band members coming back into the studio, very explicitely. Do you have any demos written? “There’s ideas floating around. One of them dates back to 1999, I think. Flea, Anthony and I did jam recently. That felt good. But as far as demos go, we’ll just start writing in October.” What about John Frusciante? He’s the one guy who’s always been in question. In fact, earlier this year he…

  • ExploreMusic hope RHCP will be more inspired this time…

…basically, the author of the article the following excerpt is of, Adam Morrison, thinks that only one of the four Peppers was always delivering his best work. Let’s see who that is and why. Their relevance in the first part of their career is unquestionable, being an accessible alt/funk rock band, grabbing attention with their personalities/image/stunts. When John Frusciante joined, things got better, and when he left, things got pretty bad. When Frusciante rejoined for Californication, the band seemed to be as inspired as ever. By The Way was okay but more of the same, and I think Stadium Arcadium was, with the exception of a couple of tracks, bloated…

  • Anthony Kiedis and Flea confirm RHCP are getting back to studio

Eminent entertainment and politics magazine Rolling Stone caught up with the Chilis at Flea’s Silverlake conservatory event and got some words on their future from the frontman and the bassist. Anthony Kiedis said: “We’ve decided to write some songs. We imposed a two-year hiatus, which we felt we needed, then we went back to the roundtable and the decision was, ‘Let’s do this.’ The seeds are being planted.” Flea said: “After being kind of burnt at the end of our last tour, I feel major enthusiasm and vigor. Not like a restlessness, but a really healthy excitement. I’m just into it and ready to go forward.” To read the whole…

  • This year’s Johnny Ramone memorial event in October

Given that John was present at a couple of events that celebrated the memory of the late Johnny Ramone and that many people who visit this site like The Ramones, this is obviously a topic of interest. The fifth anual Johnny Ramone tribute will take place on the Hollywood Forever Cemetery on 03rd October at 5:30 PM and the admission is, once again, 10$. Remember, this money goes to a good cause – prostate cancer research – and last year even the celebrity guests paid their tickets just like everyone else. The event is, as usual, presented by the late Johnny Ramone’s widow, Linda and a full-length, vintage Ramones concert…

  • Warpaint EP release coming up on 05th October

Laura of EKAP went on a personal quest to find out how easy (or not) it is to obtain a physical copy of Warpaint’s Exquisite Corpse EP re-release. She shares her own experiences and invites you to share yours on her blog. There’s the new cover art for the EP too, a small preview of which you can see here. For those who prefer downloads to physical copies, the link to band and album on iTunes is right here. If you’re not familiar with the band, they’re friends of John, they’re playing psychedelic jazzy music and you can check them out at their Myspace page – and check out the…

  • Saturday question #27 – Cartoons!

The 27th Saturday question is on and no, that does not mean SQs will face a tragic death after this one. Time for something happy and, for a change, not related to music. As a person who made the visual art baby steps by getting involved with animated movies at the age of 11, I would like to talk with you all about cartoons. The other reason is just “because”. I know we had a cartoon-related question back in May, but art is art and doing these things out of the ars gratia artis principle is just too bloody awesome. ^_^ What are your favourite cartoons? What are your favourite…

  • Michael Rother would love to play live with John again

In an interview given to the Brisbane-based free newspaper, Rave, German virtuoso Michael Rother has stated that he’s considering performing live again and that he’s contacted some of his friends…very interesting friends, that is. “Next year I hope to perform live again. I will focus on performing solo and intend to present my favourite NEU! and Harmonia music and tracks from my solo albums live. I’ve already contacted some of my favourite musician friends, such as John Frusciante, Benjamin Curtis, Josh Klinghoffer and Flea and it’s great to see that all are just as enthusiastic about this project as I am”. If your memory’s short, if you’re new to all…

  • Once again, Chad Smith on RHCP writing more songs et cetera

The rumours, stories and predictions of what may come out of the announcement that the Red Hot Chili Peppers will start jamming together in October are getting out of control and it’s still only one of the band members who’s speaking…you guessed it, Chad Smith. He has something to say again, this time it’s for MLive. Smith, who’s played with Grand Rapids native Anthony Kiedis and the Red Hot Chili Peppers the past 20 years, said that band decided to take a year off after its last tour, but plans to get back together again in October to “start writing some more songs.” “It re-energizes you, and it’s healthy to…
