“Rick Rubin: in the Studio” by Jake Brown out on 11th August
A book on Rick Rubin, the legendary producer who worked with Red Hot Chili Peppers and many others, is about to hit the stores on 11th August this year. Here’s what they said about it on Amazon: Chronicling record producer Rick Rubin’s meteoric rise in the music industry, this authoritative book posits that he has taken greater risks than any other producer of the past 25 years. Tracing his career from Def Jam Records—founded with Russell Simmons in a New York University dorm room—to his recent years as a top independent record executive, the book also goes behind the scenes to show how Rubin created hit albums with such diverse…

Saturday question #21: Pets, pets, pets!
Welcome to the 21st edition of Saturday questions. Today we have the first-ever guest question and it popped up totally spontaneously. And it’s a nice question. Robyn asks: If you could have any creature as a pet (exclude endangered species and anything that for its own quality of life should not live in captivity or with humans) what would you have? For previous Saturday questions, click here.

Saturday Question #20: How would you redo Rolling Stone’s 100 Greatest Guitarists list?
Welcome to the 20th edition of Saturday questions. This week was supposed to be the first guest question week, but that’ll be done next week instead, as this suddenly popped up. Many of you probably were around and into all this when the eminent Rolling Stone magazine published their 100 Greatest Guitarists Of All Time list (if navigation, for any reason, doesn’t work over there, click here for text-only view of the list). Now, many people also disagreed with the placement of their favourite guitarists or, even worse, some of them being completely left out of this list. So, if you had to make this list of greatest guitarists of…

Chad Smith talks (again), even claims a destination for the next RHCP tour (OK, this is new).
In his interview with Herald, prior to the Chickenfoot appearance at Marquee Cork festival, Chad Smith, once again, discussed plans for the Red Hot Chili Peppers after they, supposedly, re-unite in October this year. Once again, it is not clear if the other members have an idea on what he’s saying, given the recent experience when refering them to his interviews. ROCKERS Red Hot Chili Peppers are planning another concert in Ireland when they reform later this year. Speaking to the Herald, drummer Chad Smith revealed that the iconic group have the Emerald Isle firmly in their sights for their next tour. The Chilis last played here five years ago,…

The lineup appears to be definite and you can click on the image of the poster to see it all properly. Looks like it’s going to be an amazing party! Also, the organisators have been so kind to provide detailed instructions on how to get to the location, including an interactive map. If you’re still doubting if you should go or not, there are less than 1000 tickets left, so you should make up your mind. And, of course, if you’re going…

A Frusciante style feature in last month’s Guitar Part (France)
This one is a bit late because the gremlins have been busy, but fear not, it’s still available. There’s a two-page tabs feature in May issue of French magazine Guitar Part. It’s not a tab of a specific song, it’s a Red Hot Chili Peppers style file, meant to give the novice players an idea of what John’s doing and how he’s doing what he’s doing. This will probably be helpful to all of you who just started playing guitar and are interested in improving your skills. A video lesson is available on the DVD that comes with the magazine, but someone from the staff is conducting it. You can…

Saturday question #19: Your Own Tour
Welcome to…eeeh, you know the deal, so I shall skip this. Some weeks ago, you created supergroups. There was a dream festival, too. This week, there’s a tour. The only thing that’s missing. Your newly-created supergroup, that you’re either a member of or the manager of has to visit ten places accross the globe. Which ten do you pick? You can even specify the venues if you like. For previous Saturday questions, click here.
