• Blue Jean - March 2009

A really odd short article from a recent issue of Blue Jean (Turkey)

In one of the recent (March, precisely) issues of the Turkish music magazine Blue Jean, a staff writer wrote a short article on John’s life & career and reviewed his most recent solo album. The good news: they gave five stars to The Empyrean. The bad news: the article itself could probably measure up with this or, perhaps, this, quality-wise. You can see the scans on their individual pages by clicking on each thumbnail, or view the whole album here. 9698596989 The whole article can be read at this URL, translation of the five-star-review is coming soon. Here’s a sneak preview of how strange it is: He’s crazy. He’s very…

  • Saturday question #24 – Trapped!

This is the Saturday question number twenty-four. Imagine you ended up being trapped in a film, book, video game, TV series or a work of art (e.g. landscape painting). Depending on the circumstances you’re in, the possible supernatural powers and violence the thing you’re trapped in is known for; you might be in danger, you might, why not, be 2d instead of 3d. Either way, sounds like too weird to be real, but perfectly normal for a Saturday question. So, where would you prefer to be trapped, given a chance that you can escape if it gets too dangerous? Why there and not somewhere else? What do you think you’d…

  • Gitarre und Bass, August 2009

A John special in the August 2009 issue of Gitarre & Bass (Germany)

In the next month’s issue of the famous German magazine Gitarre & Bass there’s a seven page special on John, who’s introduced as more than a Chili Pepper. There’s also a “playalong” of Red Hot Chili Peppers’ Under The Bridge. To read more about the magazine’s current issue, which is out today, click here. You can see the scans on their individual pages by clicking on each thumbnail, or view the whole album here. 96962969669696996972969759697896981 Here’s a teaser. He belongs to the most famous but at the same time least appreciated guitarists of our times – he’s John Frusciante. His days as a songwriter with the Red Hot Chili Peppers…

  • Bang Fest has been cancelled

Bang Face have just sent information on the event’s cancellation to Bang Fest ticket holders. I have no idea what this means in terms of Speed Dealer Moms’ set, but as soon as it’s known, you’ll be informed. Sadly due to reasons beyond our control Bang Fest cannot take place this year. This is an extremely frustrating situation since we have our licence and the support has been so strong. We apologise for any inconvenience and will refund your ticket(s) in full over the next week. Once your card has been re-credited the money should appear back to you within 4-5 working days. However, for the Bang Face Hard Crew…

  • More news on Ibanez WH10 V2

“There’s nothing like the sound of a classic wah pedal to squeeze every ounce of expression out of a screaming solo or rhythm part. The Ibanez WH10V2 was a hit when it was first released in the ‘80s and now it’s back and even better.” For everyone who was delighted and surprised when this website announced the news on Ibanez WH10’s resurection on Friday before anyone else did – this is for you. The WH10 V2 already has its own page on Ibanez’s website, you can visit it here for all the specs. Also, these two websites already have it for pre-order: ZZsounds.com SameDayMusic.com And here is the response to…

  • Saturday question #23 – To copy or not to copy?

OK, and now for something completely different. There’s that cartoon where a character in a talent audition says that he’s going to imitate Frankie, who’s imitating Ricky, who’s imitating Elvis. It might sound funny, but it probably is what everyone’s doing nowadays: regardless of the type of the performing art – acting, music, comedy, and it probably occurs in the other types of arts as well as in design, journalism, perhaps even science and politics. So, this week’s Saturday question is: do you think copying is OK? If you think so, are you copying anyone in anything? Also, if you’re not doing it, who else’s doing it and whom are…

  • John with our friend Matthew, 16th July 2009

John on Speed Dealer Moms et cetera

As some of you know, Warpaint had a show yesterday at Hammer Museum and a some people who went to that show actually bumped into John who was in the audience, supporting his friends. An awesome gentleman by the name of Matthew Alexander talked to him for a bit and this photo was snapped, too. Given that this is indentical to how we found about The Empyrean a month and half before the official statement was issued; I get it that it’s OK to re-tell the details of the conversation which Matthew’d previously kindly shared on his Twitter account. Basically, John is having a lot of fun working on the…

  • Ibanez WH10 is being made again – as Ibanez WH10 V2!

This just in from the Ibanez product manager of amps and pedals (who’s a massive John fan, by the way). At today’s NAMM show in Nashville, TN, USA; Ibanez will unveal the WH10 V2, which is a reissue of the WH10 wah pedal. The pedal has been recreated and is the same as the old pedal with one upgrade, the case is metal, not plastic. The casing looks exactly the same and they even kept the same colors and all. It will sell for $99.99 in the US and is available in the fall. This is extremely exciting for me as this pedal has been a favorite of mine for…

  • Warners and YouTube talk again. Might be good news.

As reported by CNET news, it appears that Warner Bros and YouTube are in talks again; which could possibly result in benefits to all people who were uploading RHCP (and other musicians’ stuff) to YT and got banned, even for background music in their slideshows sometimes. Six months ago, talks between Warner Music Group and YouTube over the licensing of the label’s music videos broke down, and since then, anyone looking for official clips from acts such as The Red Hot Chili Peppers, Death Cab for Cutie, and Green Day has likely been disappointed. That presumably could change as the companies have entered into a new round of talks, according…

  • Saturday question #22: Trade places for a day!

This week’s question is one of ’em creative ones. I hope you’ll enjoy it. Imagine having an unique chance to trade places with someone else for a day. You can be in their skin for 24 hours, do whatever you think you should be doing. And they can be you. It’s tricky, they could improve your life, they could also mess things up…then again, you could do the same to them. Either way, a risky, yet fun thing; dealt with in many books, films and other works of art. Let’s give it a go. Who would you trade places with for a day and what would you do, being them?…
