• Anna Nalick covers “Breaking The Girl”

On her new EP, Shine, Anna Nalick has covered RHCP’s Breaking The Girl. It’s up to both her and the guys’ fans to decide if this is actually good or it’s as catastrophic as Taylor Daine or (god forbid) All Saints’ take at Under The Bridge; or as hillarous and brilliant as Dick Brave’s take on Give It Away or Richard Cheese’s swing-jazz short version of Suck My Kiss. Here’s an excerpt of the review: Also included is a sparse and piercing cover of the Red Hot Chili Peppers’ track, “Breaking the Girl,” which Nalick strikingly turns on its head. She sticks to Anthony Kiedis’ lyrical point of view, thus…

  • You Can’t Stop Me Now will see the day, after all

(thanks to Anita C.S. for the heads up!) RZA’s new solo release titled Bobby Digital and scheduled to see the light of the day sometime later this spring will, amongst other songs, contain You Can’t Stop Me Now, the third collaboration with John that was omitted from Wu-Tang Clan’s 8 Diagrams before the final track listing was announced. So, yes, the song exists, the guitar on it sounds very laid-back and soul-ish and you can hear it on RZA’s Myspace page, as well as Wu-Tang Clan’s Myspace page.

  • Site updates, 20th March 2008

This update was strategically delayed for one simple reason: 750 000 visitors milestone. I thought it would be a nice non-coincidence. As usual, the brief list of updates is here, and you need to load the separate news item page for a detailed description. There will probably be one more update in a couple of days, as I promised some people some certain audio and video, but today it’s a zeitnot, so…later. The list of articles that need to be typed up has been made, in case you’d like to help out. Seven sets of live photographs Two sets of magazine scans Two sets of screencaps/stills 50 wallpapers made by…

Drumroll, please! ^_^ One of Invisible-Movement’s sister sites, JoshKlinghoffer.net aka JKDN is doing an interview with Joe Lally, one third of Ataxia, a member of Fugazi and a solo artist in his own right. I’ll direct all the questions to the person doing this interview. You have twenty-four hours to do this, as the interview will take place very, very soon. • Keith Murray would go for John as his dream-festival opener.

Having been asked by ITN.co.uk about what their dream festival would look like, members of the New York-based band We Are Scientists gave very interesting responses and that just adds them to the list to musicians who are fans of John’s work. Bassist Chris Cain joked: “My first question would be, ‘do the bands all have to still be alive?’, because if so, I can’t work within those constraints. I won’t do that.” Singer Keith Murray added: “If we had no limitations financially or whether or not the artist is dead, John Frusciante is on first, he gets an hour set. Red Hot Chilli Peppers close it out.”

  • John with The Mars Volta in a MTV Overdrive clip

(Thanks to Melissa and flipzoso for the heads up!) Look at the following MTV Overdrive clip of The Mars Volta’s Omar Rodriguez-Lopez and Cedric Bixler-Zavala carefully, as John appears in it as well, in the pro-footage of when he played L’Via L Viaquez with the band on either August 04th or 50th, 2005 in Long Beach.
