  • Recent clippings on John: Q Magazine, Total Guitar, Les Inrocks

Here’s a little-round up on magazines and websites mentioning John in the recent couple of weeks. Les Inrocks – second trimestre of 2010 The April/May/June issue of French magazine Les Inrocks is dedicated to Jimi Hendrix (he’s on the cover, alongside a couple of topless ladies) and it also briefly covers musicians and bands influenced by the legend. Of course, John and the Red Hot Chili Peppers get a mention…a somewhat poetic one. In the 80s, groups as different as Chrissie Hynde’s The Pretenders or the Red Hot Chili Peppers recreated his classics. Among the notable Californians, the guitarist John Frusciante, capable of switching from funk to folk with a…

  • A chronology of John’s career in March 2010 issue of Strange Days

The March 2010 issue of Japanese magazine Strange Days (issue 124), is dedicated to 40 years of progressive rock and many artists are covered, mostly through retrospectives of their careers. So is John. The article is six pages long and it concerns both his solo work and the Red Hot Chili Peppers’ albums with him. There is basically nothing new in the article, but there might be a translation in near future. • John chords and Satriani’s comment on departure in Guitar World, April 2010

There’s yet another snippet concerning John in the April 2010 issue of Guitar World. This time, it does not concern his departure from the Red Hot Chili Peppers, as the last month’s one-page feature did, it’s about what really matters – music and playing style. The snippet concerns seventh chords. For everyone who needs help finding the magazine- this issue of Guitar World has a psychedelic cover with a Jimi Hendrix headshot in the centre, just like on the preview thumbnail of this article. • A sneak preview of Neil Zlozower’s “Six String Heroes”

The recently-released book “Six String Guitar Heroes” is a collection of some of the best guitarists’ portraits taken by the legendary photographer Neil Zlozower, also known as “Zloz” in the musicians’ circles. In addition to an interview with the photographer they posted earlier; folks from LA Weekly have now uploaded a selection of photographs from the book itself. The photograph of John can be reached on page five of the selection. To get this book, you can order it from both Amazon.com and Amazon.co.uk. • A feature in March 2010 issue of Guitar Techniques

There’s a feature on John in the March 2010 issue of Guitar Techniques, titled Rock Out With Frusciante. The magazine is mostly dedicated to novice and intermediate players and contains fully-explained guitar lessons and should improve everyone’s playing; so I assume that this will delight those who are struggling to play. There’s a short introduction to Red Hot Chili Peppers’ history, an update on John’s departure and a short analysis of his playing, followed by almost two pages’ worth of example tabs. You can see the scans on their individual pages by clicking on each thumbnail, or view the whole album here. 972169722097223 Here’s a teaser: Frusciante’s playing has always…

  • A mention of John’s departure from RHCP in Guitar World, March 2010

There’s an one-page snippet on John’s departure from the Red Hot Chili Peppers in March 2010 issue of Guitar World. As usual, our friend Roberto Campos was so kind to provide Invisible Movement with the scan, so you can read it and download it. The article itself is nothing really new, as it’s mostly paraphrasing John’s 16th December blog entry. Click the thumbnail to go to the page with this scan in the gallery or click here. 97204 You might also want to check out The whole March 2010 issue preview 2009 article on John from GW 2006 HUGE feature on John from GW 2002 interview with John from GW…

  • Blue Jean - March 2009

A really odd short article from a recent issue of Blue Jean (Turkey)

In one of the recent (March, precisely) issues of the Turkish music magazine Blue Jean, a staff writer wrote a short article on John’s life & career and reviewed his most recent solo album. The good news: they gave five stars to The Empyrean. The bad news: the article itself could probably measure up with this or, perhaps, this, quality-wise. You can see the scans on their individual pages by clicking on each thumbnail, or view the whole album here. 9698596989 The whole article can be read at this URL, translation of the five-star-review is coming soon. Here’s a sneak preview of how strange it is: He’s crazy. He’s very…

  • Guitar Part, May 2009

A Frusciante style feature in last month’s Guitar Part (France)

This one is a bit late because the gremlins have been busy, but fear not, it’s still available. There’s a two-page tabs feature in May issue of French magazine Guitar Part. It’s not a tab of a specific song, it’s a Red Hot Chili Peppers style file, meant to give the novice players an idea of what John’s doing and how he’s doing what he’s doing. This will probably be helpful to all of you who just started playing guitar and are interested in improving your skills. A video lesson is available on the DVD that comes with the magazine, but someone from the staff is conducting it. You can…
