A journalist’s rewind of 2007, focused on 12th March
As a part of Popmatters’ look back at the year 2007 in music, William Carl Ferleman remembers the controversial situation at the RHCP show in Oklahoma City on 12th March, where John criticised the audience for having booed Mickey Avalon; and shares some obviously non-biased views, yet is contradicting himself. Frusciante’s impromptu outspokenness on the matter was not only hilariously ironic, but also indelibly hypocritical. Last time I checked, the Red Hot Chili Peppers, you know, the band for which Frusciante plays guitar, is one of the most well-known, mainstream bands in this universe. Frusciante himself smiles proudly on the cover of the February issue of Rolling Stone, the magazine’s…

Vote for John!
NME is choosing the greatest guitarists ever. Go to this page to vote. They will be rotating photos of guitarists and letting you grade them on the scale from 1 to 10. At some point, a photo of John from early 2003 comes up and you can rate him as well. You can check the current standings after each vote, on the list shown below the rating panel. Let’s at least make sure John is in top five! The rivals are tough.

More on Green Fest TV and amateur media!
Many people who have seen the videos from Green Fest have requested full versions of the three non-broadcasted songs. Unfortunately, I have not come accross a decent amateur video of Snow ((Hey Oh)) and Throw Away Your Television (still looking, though…I know many people who went to the show and also, my computer is like a war sight); but the good news is that Sascha, one of friends went to the show with me, recorded the whole of Don’t Forget Me. Head over to the amateur videos page and download it. iPod-compatible versions of all Green Fest TV clips are online. I first made them for my iPod, but having…

Green Fest videos from TV
Once again, happy New year 2008! Срећна Ðова година! / Srećna Nova godina! ^_^ So…RHCP’s set at Green Fest was on TV and I managed to capture everything with my TV card. Until one of those nice people who have better signal manages to upload the files, these’ll do. Please, note that three songs were not shown on TV, due to reasons stated six months ago: Throw Away Your Television, Snow ((Hey Oh)) and, unfortunately, Don’t Forget Me, which was great even despite the obvious problems. The direction of the show was, as predicted, supreme. People who filmed really strange and scary things in the past did a great job…

A little story: Zack Wiesinger didn’t recognise John
Young talented guitarist Zack Wiesinger, discovered by and opening concerts for Steve Vai, is known for not being interested in celebrities, modern ways of fame and similar; which makes his not recognising John, who would probably be similar if he wasn’t the guitarist in the today’s biggest rock band in the world, even more interesting. He had brushes with celebrity, but was unfazed. After hearing him at the King of the Blues competition, a VH-1 representative invited him to a “Save the Music” event where actors and musicians were scheduled to attend. Wiesinger forgot to go; he spent the evening working on his own projects. Another time, Vai introduced him…

Dave Gahan’s “Saw Something” and an end-of-the-year poll
Dave Gahan’s song, Saw Something is finally accompanied by a music video. It was too optimistic to think John could be in it because he plays the guitar solo on the track; but this is a great way for those who have not heard the song yet to finally hear it and decide if John’s solo matches the end of the video. Enjoy! https://youtube.com/watch?v=NxTNsc3U53c And, while we’re at it, a poll. What was your favourite collaboration John did in 2007? If you can’t remember what some of the songs on the list are, look further through this news item for explanations. If Gravity Lulls, I Can Hear The World Pant…

Weekly playlist: 25th December 2007 – 01st January 2008
The last playlist in 2007 has arrived. As you can see, in future it will be announced on Tuesdays instead of Mondays, as it’s easier that way…and also, because it will be a bit more homogenic next (two) week(s). And…I wanted that next one to be up on the first day of 2008, anyway. Here’s a brief list of what’s on. To read more about it and see where you can get the last one if you liked it, click the “read more” link. 2001, 30th January: New Dawn Fades 2001, 30th January: So Would’ve I 2000, ?: A funny Much Music interview with John and Anthony 2006, 02nd October:…

Greet New Year 2008 with John and RHCP…
…if you’re living here in Serbia, that is. The nice people over there at RTS have decided to show RHCP’s set at Green Fest as the last thing in 2007, to greet the New Year 2008 with. It will be shown on RTS 2, on 31st December 2007 at 23h (11 PM). I’m filiming it, so I could upload some for the site visitors the first thing in the new year and make it the first playlist in 2008, but it might not be of best quality. Thanks to other people who will record, there will sure be a great-quality recording; but you guys will have to wait a bit…
