Even more positive reviews on 8 Diagrams
…and one negative, but very interesting to hear, as everyone’s entitled to their own views. ‘The Heart Gently Weeps,’ the album’s most discussed track, is a symphony of weird. Red Hot Chili Peppers’ guitarist John Frusciante drips acid – damaged licks over a dribbling keyboard approximating the melody of the Beatles’ ‘While My Guitar Gently Weeps.’ And Badu sings the gauzy hook as if she’s just awakened from a nap. (tuscaloosanews.com) Yes, that was different…back to the regular ones. The strangest track on this strange album is “The Heart Gently Weeps,” an interpretation of the Beatles’ “While My Guitar Gently Weeps,” featuring a vocal chorus by Erykah Badu and guitars…

RZA gives John two thumbs up for playing for free
In an interview for this week’s issue of Rolling Stone, RZA of Wu-Tang clan was talking about recording 8 Diagrams, and the different principles in the world of hip hop and rock. He praises John, as well as Dhani Harrisson, because they didn’t even ask for a honorar. What was Dhani Harrison like to work with? Dhani is superorofessional. Sometimes, to get Ghostface or U-God in the studio, I’ve got to send a car for them – sometimes I have to send money! Dhani paid for his own ticket from London, put himself in a hotel and stayed two days in the middle of doing his own project. He don’t…

Once again, sorry for the delay, I’ve had some major personal problems and I couldn’t have worked on the new playlist yesterday. Calibration update
Due to a problem which is, well, not of a technical kind; the playlists will be swapped on Tuesday and I apologise for that. Until then, just one little bit of info: As people in Japan who already got Omar Rodriguez-Lopez’s new album say, John is credited solely on track number six, Glosa Picaresca Wou Men and the song basically has an Ataxia-ish vibe to it, but the voice is very much distorted. Oh, and just to make it sure: he’s singing in English.

RHCP on VH1 Europe’s History Of Rock next week
RHCP will be one of the bands featured in next weekend’s special, History Of Rock on VH1 Europe. With the year drawing to a close where would we be without another massive Rock Weekend to hold you over until the new year? This is what VH1 is all about; the rock masters, the stories, and all that guitar rifting mayhem. We get you comfortable with a number of Making the Video Series featuring the idyllic Red Hot Chili Peppers, the nice guy Foo Fighters, the sleepy head Metallica and the no messin’ Linkin Park. On top of that we add rock stardom and history with a recap on the 2007…

Impressions of the Wu-Tang clan’s songs featuring John
As the most of you already know (you were looking at the calendar, haven’t you), Wu-Tang Clan’s album 8 Diagrams has been out for 2 days now. It’s 100% sure that John is on two tracks, The Heart Gently Weeps and Windmill (many thanks to Anita for having looked at the album credits and cleared that up!). You can get the clean version of the album here and the explicit version here. If that’s too much for you, you can buy those two songs only: The Heart Gently Weeps is here and Windmill is here. Now for some reviews…the longest one first, the rest are behind the “more” link. Feel…

RHCP’s performance on Green Fest to be on TV for New Year!
The kind people from Radio and Television of Serbia have responded to a friend of mine, who contacted them a couple of times, regarding their professional recording of RHCP’s set at Green Fest. There have, as we know, been many speculations regarding this event and how it will be edited for television, even stories that Red Hot Chili Peppers’ management won’t allow RTS to show it on TV…however, all of that was, apparently, not true. So…RHCP’s set at Green Fest 2007 will be shown on either RTS1 or RTS2 (no information on satellite TV, but I will try to look it up!) on either 01st or 02nd January 2008. As…

The yet-to-be-titled album is supposedly mastered
(thanks to beejaysus for the heads up!) When asked about mastering secrets behind John’s upcoming tenth solo album, still known only under the codename Solo X on his message boards; Steve Hoffman, the music restoration mastermind said only this: Heh, that’s supposed to be a secret! We reduced the upper bass boom a teeny-tiny bit (1/2 db). Other than that, it’s how John mixed it. So, according to this, the mastering has probably been completed and all that’s left is waiting for an actual announcement and, of course, the album’s real name. But don’t go jumping around, please; remember that it took a while for SCWP and AWII to see…
